Throughout the different stages of your life, your skin goes through many changes. What worked in your twenties, may not work any longer in your forties. Skin Care At Any Age – How To Take Care Of Your Skin
During your teens, you will see the biggest changes in your skin. Skin may go from being normal to all of a sudden “breaking out” or producing more oil. If acne is a problem for you, it is best to address it at this stage, as problems may get worse later on in life. Always use a good cleanser and be sure to remove all of your makeup at night. You want to keep your skin as clean as possible. If breakouts aren’t too serious, you may want to try using an over the counter acne medication, such as benzoyl peroxide. You may also wish to use a toner to remove any extra dirt or oil that is left on the skin. You can apply toner several times a day, if you choose. This will keep your complexion fresh and your pores clean.
In your twenties, your complexion should be at its best usually, simply because it’s not going through so many changes as when you were a teen. Some people may have only had to battle with acne through their teens and can be grateful to have it all cleared up. However, for some others, they may still suffer from it at this stage in life. Fifties and Up
In your fifties, all the damage that you have done to your skin over the years becomes visible. By now, you should have a skin care regimen that includes an exfoliating product and sunscreen. Tanning will only make you look older and contribute to more age spots, if you have any. You want to keep on moisturizing to keep the skin as smooth as possible. Because of menopause, occasional breakouts may occur. Using a mild over the counter cream will help to get rid of any pimples. You may also want to consider getting a peel or another light procedure to smooth and freshen the skin. The same applies for being in your sixties and up. However, you may notice more wrinkles. Your skin is also very pale at this stage. This makes for uneven discoloration that you may have become more noticeable. You should apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going out in the sun as to give your skin time to absorb it. Apply it to any exposed areas of your face and body that will see the sun and do so generously. Also, make certain that you reapply it every hour or so, especially if you will be sweating or in the water. Choose a formula that will protect you from UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays cause aging and cancer, whereas UVB rays will cause you to burn.
The type of sunscreen that you use really depends on your skin type and on what kind of activity you will be participating in. If you will be swimming or playing a sport, you should always use a waterproof formula. This will protect you the longest, but it won’t protect you all day. No sunscreen will do that. So, remember to apply it again after coming out of the water and after you have been active.
Creams or lotions are perfect to use everyday. Creams will be quite moisturizing, so they should only be used on dry skin. Lotions have a lighter texture and can be used on any skin type.
However, if you have oily skin or skin prone to breakouts look for an oil-free version. Solid sunscreens come in the form of sticks. They are quite portable and handy to carry. These are great for smaller areas of the body and face. Gels are mostly oil-free and will not clog your pores. They are also non-greasy. This is why they are excellent for oily or acne-prone skin. Sprays are easy and fast to apply. They make it easier to get places that are hard to reach. These can be used on any skin type. If you have oily skin, buy an oil-free version. If you have sensitive skin, choose a sunscreen that is non-irritating and preferably fragrance free.
You may want to use a different sun block for your face and body. It you wish to use a sunscreen that is made for the body on your face, use one that is oil-free.

How To Give Yourself An At Home Facial
A great way to pamper yourself and your skin is with a self facial. Whether you do it once a week, every couple of weeks or just once a month, you will look and feel better. Think of it as a wonderful deep cleansing treat for your skin. The only products that you will need are:
- a makeup remover
- cotton balls or pads
- a gentle cleanser
- a washcloth
- an exfoliating scrub
- a large bowl (which will be filled with almost boiled water)
- a towel
- a facemask
An at-home facial is easy to do and will only take about 30 minutes. So take some time out for yourself to indulge.
STEP 1: The first step is to remove all of your makeup with a makeup remover. Tie or pull your hair back to keep it off of your face, and gently remove makeup from the eye area. You may want to use a cotton ball or pad. Once you have taken off all of your makeup, wet your face with lukewarm water. Next, apply a cleanser to your skin and wash your face using gentle circular motions. Then splash your face with water a few times to rinse the cleanser completely off. Now pat your face dry using a washcloth.
STEP 2: Once your face is dry, you’ll want to exfoliate to smooth your skin and get rid of any dead skin cells. Apply an exfoliating scrub in a thin layer all over your face. Wet your fingertips and again gently massage in a circular motion for a couple of minutes. Do not scrub hard and be rough with your skin, just lightly massage with your fingertips. Once you finished, be sure to wash all of the exfoliator off of your face. Again, pat dry using a washcloth.
STEP 3: Fill a kettle with some water and start to boil it. Do not boil it completely though. Take it off of the stove once it is near boiling. Then take a large bowl and fill it with the water. Hold your face a few inches over the bowl and put a towel over your head (this will help keep the in) for 10 minutes. As you are doing this, breathe deeply and relax. Steaming the skin is an excellent way to clear and clean your pores and to flush the toxins out of out of your skin. When the 10 minutes are up, rinse your face with slightly cool water. Then pat dry.

Masks are also used to firm the skin. After you have steamed, apply a thin layer of the mask all over your face (avoiding the eye area). Leave it on for the period of time suggested on the product. When that time is up, wash the mask off or peel it off depending on what the directions say. Now that you have completed your at home facial, your skin should feel clean, supple and smooth. Stick to this weekly or monthly ritual and you will see the results. You will notice a big improvement in your skin.
